Television City: A History of Filming on the Upper West Side

February 11, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm

UWS TV series filming

In May 2019, 63rd Street and Broadway was officially christened “Sesame Street,” honoring not only the 50th anniversary of the beloved show but also the rich history of television production on the Upper West Side. You know that a myriad of iconic shows have been set in the neighborhood (hi, Seinfeld!) But did you know that even more have been filmed here? From daytime soaps to late night legends; old CBS studios to new PBS outposts, Landmark West! looks at the Upper West Side through the lens of a TV camera, exploring the neighborhood’s long history as New York’s television city.

Speaker Lucie Levine is a writer, historian and New York City tour guide. She is the founder of Archive on Parade, a historical tour and event company that takes New York’s history out of the archives and into the streets and is Contributing History Writer at 6sqft.
